Integrative Psychiatry — A Specialty of Fresh Path

ASD & Neurodivergent
Affirming Care

Neurodivergent brains are not broken versions of neurotypical brains. They are wired differently — and they deserve care that is built around how they work, not care that assumes something needs to be fixed.

A specialty area at Fresh Path

Neurodivergent affirming care, ASD support, and co-occurring mental health treatment for autistic and neurodivergent adults is a core focus of our practice — not an add-on. Our providers have specialized training and ongoing commitment to this work.

Our Approach

Why is the world so exhausting when your brain works differently?

Neurodivergent people — including autistic adults, people with ADHD, and those with profiles that don't fit neatly into one category — are often navigating environments, systems, and relationships that were not designed with them in mind. Research continues to show that neurodivergence involves meaningful differences in how the brain and neural system process sensory input, regulate stress, support executive functioning, and form neural connections. The exhaustion, anxiety, and burnout that come from that are real.

At Fresh Path Integrative Psychiatry, we offer thoughtful, neurodivergent-affirming psychiatric care designed to support you as you are — not to normalize you into something you are not. Our care is built around understanding how your nervous system works and what it needs, with the goal of helping you feel more stable, resourced, and less like you are constantly swimming upstream.

What we work with

A Whole-Person Approach to Neurodivergent Care

We address the full picture—not just the diagnosis, but how your brain and neural system process stress, sensory information, executive functioning, emotions, and everyday demands. Those differences influence far more than symptoms—they shape your lived experience. Hover each to learn more.

Medication Management

Medication when appropriate — selected with an understanding that autistic and neurodivergent people can have different sensitivities, responses, and side effect profiles than neurotypical patients.

Herbal & Supplement Supports

Herbal and supplement-based supports chosen for clinical evidence and how they interact with your neurology — including considerations specific to autistic metabolic and sensory profiles.

Nutrition, Sensory & Lifestyle

Nutrition, sleep, sensory regulation, and routine as active parts of neurodivergent care — with practical guidance that accounts for the real challenges of sensory eating, sleep dysregulation, and executive function.

Co-Occurring Condition Care

Specialized care for ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma that co-occur with ASD or neurodivergent profiles — treating the full picture, not each condition in isolation.

Your evaluation

What does neurodivergent-affirming psychiatric care actually include?

We practice integrative psychiatry with specialized attention to how neurodivergence shapes every aspect of your mental health picture. Your evaluation and care may include:

  • A comprehensive psychiatric assessment that accounts for neurodivergent presentation
  • Review of relevant lab work and hormone levels when appropriate
  • Exploration of masking history, burnout patterns, and sensory profile
  • Collaboration with therapists, diagnosticians, and other providers
  • Consideration of how co-occurring conditions interact with your neurodivergent profile
  • Genetic testing when indicated

There is no hierarchy in how we approach care. Your plan is built around how your brain works, your history, and what feels sustainable for your actual life.

Treatment Philosophy

A Modern Approach Meets
Traditional Wisdom

We draw from both evidence-based medicine and holistic practices, adapted for how neurodivergent nervous systems actually work. Your plan is built around your profile, not a generic template.

Our Values

Identity-Affirming, Safety-Oriented Care

Neurodivergent people — including autistic adults — are disproportionately likely to have experienced dismissal, misdiagnosis, and care that tried to change them rather than support them. That history matters and shapes how safe it feels to seek help again.

Fresh Path provides inclusive, affirming care for adults of all neurotypes, genders, sexual orientations, racial and cultural identities. We are queer-affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, and committed to care that starts from the position that you are not broken.

Neurodiversity-affirming Autistic-affirming Queer-affirming All genders welcome Late diagnosis welcome
"Your neurology is not a problem to be solved. It is a difference to be understood and supported."

Your experiences matter. Your symptoms matter. Your voice matters — and so does the fact that you may have spent years being told otherwise.

What We Do

Can psychiatric care help me feel more stable and more like myself?

For neurodivergent people, the right support is not about becoming more neurotypical — it is about having a brain that is better resourced, less overwhelmed, and able to do what it does well with less cost. With care built around how your nervous system works, daily life can become more manageable and less depleting.

We assess the full picture with specific attention to how neurodivergence shapes symptom presentation — including how masking can obscure both strengths and struggles, how autistic burnout can mimic depression, and how ADHD, anxiety, and OCD present differently in autistic individuals. A careful, unhurried evaluation is the foundation of care that actually fits.

Autistic and neurodivergent people can have different sensitivities, metabolic differences, and response profiles to psychiatric medications. We approach prescribing with this in mind — starting lower when appropriate, monitoring carefully, and staying in close communication about how medications are landing for you specifically.

ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma are common co-occurring conditions with autism and other neurodivergent profiles. We treat these in the context of your full neurological picture — understanding, for example, that anxiety in an autistic person often has different drivers and needs different approaches than anxiety in a neurotypical person.

Autistic burnout — profound exhaustion, loss of skills or functioning, and increased sensory sensitivity following a period of sustained stress — is distinct from depression but frequently misdiagnosed as it. Recognizing burnout changes the treatment approach: recovery requires reducing demands and building in genuine rest, not increasing behavioral expectations or adding more structure.

Sensory eating challenges, sleep dysregulation, and nervous system dysregulation are common in neurodivergent people and have direct effects on mental health and daily functioning. We incorporate these with specific, practical guidance that accounts for the real constraints and needs of neurodivergent nervous systems — not generic wellness advice.

We coordinate closely with therapists who specialize in neurodivergent care, diagnostic psychologists, occupational therapists, and other providers. Neurodivergent care works best when the team is aligned — and when psychiatric support is creating biological conditions that support the other work rather than working at cross-purposes to it.
